Kiki Swanson
Bio and Works Kiki Swanson grew up happily in Wheaton, Illinois, playing the piano, working in the library and close to her church. Near-by Chicago offered museums and concerts to enrich her growing-up years. The daughter of teachers, she graduated from Smith College, and taught high school writing and journalism before marrying and raising three sons. A master's Degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary focused on human values and equipped Kiki for leadership in the Presbyterian Church and as a consultant in mission and capital fund-raising. She has recently retired from eleven years in senior adult ministry and now is writing full time. She draws heavily on insights into members of her family and middle western roots. Kiki's novels revolve around a strong woman who reminds readers ot their relative or neighbors or school friends. Their life stories come out in conversation and their inter-relationships. She weaves in historic research, her own love of music, cooking and sewing, as well as geographic settings from her own life. She and her husband live in Scottsdale, AZ, near their three sons and their families. At the Risk of Sounding Like Your Mother was a book written for her sons then years ago. My Will Be Done (ISBN 1-4134-0546-0)is a novel based on her grandmother's motto as it controlled her Scot family in Illinois in the early 1900's. Dearly Beloved (ISBN 1-58776-849-6)traces the life and love of the wife of a young minister as he follows his call to mission in the rural West in the same years. Remnants: Ready for New Life answers the question Can one woman make a difference in the lives of friends? In this case, Daisy chooses to live in a retirement community and invites her friends to join her. Based on stories from her ministry, Kiki proves that they can indeed have a new, productive life today. Remnants and its sequel Alterations will come out in 2009. Kiki's writing shows her love of people and her understanding of the challenges facing both women and men. She is currently writing the life story of K. Don Fry, whose passion for the grocery business led to a chain of stores in Arizona that carries his family name with distinction. Her energy also produces luncheon talks, writing seminars and presentations at conferences. One recent title was Goals + Objectives = GO. Another was Is there a story inside you just waiting to come out? Call her or send an email to kikiswan@cox.net. Books by Kiki Swanson
